We've spent decades developing our knowledge and know-how, and collaborating with the very best research institutions. But on every new project we still spend time understanding exactly what we're dealing with.

To protect something, you have to know it. That's our starting point, and our thorough, investigative approach then allows us to identify threats and possible issues before they arise.

Preventive conservation is about taking action now rather than later and putting well-considered measures in place. We think about airtightness and climate control. We think about the possibility of offgassing, and of tremors and vibrations. And we ensure that together every element of conservation every piece of this particular jigsaw works in perfect harmony.

Airtightness

How can we create a stable micro-environment, with ideal air quality, humidity and temperature? The answer is of course airtightness, since ambient air will never meet these ideals.

Climate control

You know how damaging fluctuating humidity and temperature can be. Too high, too low, sudden changes all of these can have significant and damaging repercussions.

Anti-seismic devices

Whether or not earthquakes and tremors are a concern, anti-seismic devices will have a role to play. Visitors within the museum and passing traffic could both, in small ways, be affecting the stability of an object.
