Located in the heart of Vicenza, the Centro Internazionale di Studi di Architettura Andrea Palladio (CISA Andrea Palladio) is the leading center dedicated to the study, preservation, and dissemination of Andrea Palladio’s work. Since 2012, the institution has welcomed the public through the Palladio Museum, where drawings, models, documents, and materials trace the activity of the Vicentine architect and the enduring influence of his work on Western architectural culture.
Within this context, Goppion carried out a protective intervention for the Palladian drawings exhibited in the museum galleries.
The drawing currently on view, D32 verso, shows the detail of the base and pedestal of the column of Emperor Phocas in the Roman Forum. It reflects Palladio’s close study of ancient architecture and his careful analysis of the proportions and construction of Roman buildings.
The Palladian drawings preserved in Vicenza belong to the Musei Civici di Vicenza and are housed at the Palladio Museum as part of a broader project of study, conservation, and rotational display, designed to ensure both long-term preservation and public access.
The drawing is protected within a microclimate frame set into a Dibond mount bearing interpretive annotations. The system also incorporates a closable shutter, allowing the work to be shielded from light when not being viewed and thereby limiting cumulative exposure.
Designed to integrate discreetly into the existing exhibition setting, Goppion’s solution improves the conservation conditions of these particularly delicate graphic materials while ensuring a clear and accurate reading of the work.
