Goppion is delighted to deepen our ongoing partnership with the Egyptian Museum in Turin, one of the world’s oldest and most esteemed museums dedicated to Egyptian art and culture. Our latest collaboration involves implementing state-of-the-art display solutions in the museum’s newly inaugurated Textile Gallery.

This project underscores our commitment to merging innovative technology with cultural heritage preservation, ensuring that each artifact is both protected and presented in an environment that honors its historical significance.

In 2013, Goppion won an international competition to create over 150 exhibition elements for the Egyptian Museum, including display cases, supports, and bases. This foundational work laid the groundwork for our continued collaboration, enhancing the museum’s ability to showcase its remarkable collection. Read more about this project here.

At the heart of the Egyptian Museum’s Textile Gallery, Goppion has engineered specialized conservation-grade display cases that house an impressive collection of 732 textile artifacts. This includes 78 large cloths carefully rolled onto large cylinders covered with natural, undyed cotton, and 654 smaller pieces meticulously placed in drawers beneath these rolls. Our display solutions are designed to ensure the best possible conservation conditions by controlling internal factors such as brightness, temperature, and humidity, thereby stabilizing the delicate textiles against environmental threats.

The gallery is not just a space for exhibition but also serves as a dynamic venue for research and educational workshops. This multifunctionality is achieved through the thoughtful design of the exhibition space, which accommodates both public visits and specialized activities. The display cases themselves are crafted to support this dual function; they are extensively used throughout the museum both for display and as archival storage, ensuring practical access and aesthetic harmony with the museum’s architectural features.

Each display case is equipped with a gel drawer and LED lighting, optimizing the visibility of the textiles while preserving their fragile fibers. Our approach is not only about maintaining the physical integrity of the artifacts but also about enhancing the viewer’s experience through carefully calibrated illumination that reveals the true colors and textures of each piece.

This project represents a collaborative effort between Goppion’s team of designers and engineers and the museum’s conservation experts. Together, we have crafted a gallery space that not only safeguards invaluable historical textiles but also makes them accessible to a global audience, thereby contributing to the educational mission of the Egyptian Museum.

With the opening of the Textile Gallery, Goppion continues to set new standards in the realm of museum exhibitions, proving once again that our expertise in the technical aspects of museum installations can profoundly impact the preservation and appreciation of cultural heritage worldwide.
