Professor Paolo Galluzzi, Director of Florence’s Museo Galileo: “The glass cases (of the new museum) are state-of-the-art both in terms of conservation as well as in terms of being easy to use. Impressive machines, a fine balance between design and technology”.

During his visit on the occasion of the presentation of the new Museo Galileo to the press and local authorities, the Director illustrated to Stella Targetti, Vice-President of the Tuscan Regional Authorities, the special technical features of the glass cases, emphasising in particular the large doors of the cases that open thanks to gas spring hinges and the micro-climate control systems for the preventive conservation of the objects on display.

Vittorio Sgarbi, taking part in the presentation, admitted he had been won over by a “museum in which science and beauty live together like in a work of art, characterised by the utmost levels of aesthetic quality. An example (as well as a model) that has also been perfected today by the glass cases that you will see”. Furthermore, new materials have been used in the construction of the glass cases prompting Mr Sgarbi to say: “At this point, we’re beyond Michelangelo”, referring to the synthetic resins used in place of marble in the exhibit systems and, in particular, to the versatility of the museum director, Paolo Galluzzi.
