The Wall Street Journal featured the opening of Marcel, a new fine dining restaurant by Roman and Williams, inside Sotheby's Breuer building on Madison Avenue. The article described diners eating beneath works by Joan Mitchell, Andy Warhol, and Alexander Calder, with art displayed in Goppion glass cases available for purchase through auction or private sale.
Goppion was commissioned in 2025 to contribute to the transformation of the Breuer building into Sotheby's new global headquarters. Our involvement spans two distinct projects within the building, each developed with a different architectural team.
For Sotheby's gallery and retail spaces, we worked with Pritzker Prize-winning architects Herzog & de Meuron, engineering custom display systems integrated into the renewed architectural fabric of the building.
For Marcel, our collaboration with architecture and design studio Roman & Williams took a different direction: 16 display cases and five free-standing pedestals designed to integrate art and hospitality in a space that contrasts the building's Brutalist architecture with warm walnut-paneling and candlelight.
