The epic of jade at the Guimet Museum

18 Oct 2016

Thirteen years after the show of the Chinese Jade Gallery in the British Museum, Goppion once again confirms its expertise with the ‘stone more precious than gold’ in the prestigious exhibition entitled “Jade, from the emperors to Art Déco” at the Guimet Museum in Paris (19 October 2016 – 16 January 2017).

From the treasures of the ancient Chinese emperors to the Art Deco masterpieces of the jewellers of Paris, London, and New York who drew their inspiration from the ‘chinoiserie’, more than three-hundred thirty refined works from important national and international collections, including the National Palace Museum of Taipei – home to one third of the objects on display – and the Cartier Collection, trace the historic and aesthetic epic of the mythical stone, symbol of the Celestial Empire.

Always a venue featuring a rich program of shows dedicated to the various interpretations of oriental art, the Guimet Museum welcomed this opportunity to work on the development of an exhibition system conceived expressly for temporary exhibits and capable of guaranteeing the necessary flexibility in terms of particularly high preventive preservation parameters and capable of meeting the standards of the most demanding lenders.

The showcases selected, belonging to the Goppion M Class, are a perfect match for the specified requirements.

These are modular showcases (cm 120x120) that are easily assembled and disassembled. Made entirely of glass and fully self-supporting, they can be used individually or can be assembled in a line or a block, thereby making it possible to create exhibition 'environments' of considerable dimensions. The insertion of an innovative ceiling component that is totally integrated in the frame, preventing bending and guaranteeing inalterability without having to resort to vertical supports.

The peculiar structure of the aluminium frame, the so-called Pagani-frame, makes it possible to combine structural stability and light weight.

The versatility of the composition options, combined with the essentialism of the functional and minimalist design, guarantees the adaptability of the system to any context or type of exhibit, as these modules can be integrated with existing displays and, just as importantly, a high level of overall protection for the objects on display.
