The Declaration's Promise at the Library of Congress

On July 3, 2026, the David M. Rubenstein Treasures Gallery at the Library of Congress opens "The Declaration's Promise: A Revolutionary Idea," an exhibition of more than 120 items tracing the influence of the Declaration of Independence over 250 years of American history. At its center is Thomas Jefferson's original rough draft of the Declaration, rarely displayed, with edits in the hands of Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin.

The gallery structure was engineered, produced, and installed by Goppion in 2024, within the Thomas Jefferson Building, the oldest structure in the Library of Congress complex. The installation is a fully self-supporting structure, a requirement of the historic building's marble floors and plaster walls, which could not sustain permanent connections to the architecture. It comprises four large display cases, each one meter wide, four meters high, and seven meters long, with an overall footprint of 24 by 5 meters. A six-station interactive AV table, ten video projectors, and two large graphic panels are integrated into and around the structure. The interior display system was designed specifically for flexibility, to accommodate a wide range of object sizes, materials, and display requirements across rotating exhibitions.
