Re-opening of the Naval Section

14 Dec 2008

After a thirty-year closure, December 14th reopened the Naval Section of San Martino Museum in Naples. Housed within the homonymous Certosa, the museum is one of the most important compound of the city: overlooking Vomero Hill, it is an excellent example of Baroque art.

The exposure of the new Naval Section develops following an exhibition path that pretends also to maximize the safety and preservation of the assets. Heterogeneous collections are exposed inside: the largest group comes from the sale of part of the heritage of the Royal Navy at the Ministry of Education. That shows a valuable documentation about the Marina Borbonica and about the period following the Italian national unification. This new set up revolves around three major ships: a twenty-four oars Lancia, a turkish Caique and the Lancia of Umberto I, King of Italy from 1878 to 1900.

For this new section of the museum Laboratory museotecnico Goppion achieved the exhibition and realized the showcases to protect all the stored items.
