Paris, Louvre – Work in Progress

05 Mar 2010

A task force for the conservation of the Louvre’s masterpieces from the Mona Lisa to Leonardo’s St John – recently exhibited in Milan – with the specialists of the Goppion Laboratorio Museotecnico being called in to collaborate on the creation of the renovation project inside the Département des Antiquités Grecques, Etrusques et Romaines. Under the supervision of Stephanie Bossé and Sophie Stewart (conducteur des opérations – Venus de Milo) and of Michel Antonpietro (DAMT Research Centre) 30 glass cases have been created in Milan for the new arrangement of the Gallery of the Venus de Milo which will be officially inaugurated in July. The cases, which will be housing the marbles of the Greek art collection, will guarantee the passive control of internal humidity thanks to gel salts and will be equipped with a combined neon/led illumination system. Further solutions, welcomed by the Louvre after illumination tests on a prototype developed by Goppion, have been introduced upon suggestion by the Goppion Laboratorio Museotecnico.
In twenty days or so, the work begun in Paris on February 16th will have finished, directed by the Goppion Project Manager, Giancarlo Cotrufo.
