Goppion Museum Workshop Awarded Display Case and Exhibition Fabrication contracts at the US Library of Congress

Press Release – 10 Dec 2021

The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world, with more than 170 million books, recordings, photographs, newspapers, maps and manuscripts in its collections. The Library is the main research arm of the U.S. Congress and the home of the U.S. Copyright Office.

Goppion Museum Workshop, the North American division of Goppion S.p.A. based in Milan, Italy, is honored to be selected by the Library of Congress to supply 28 custom, high-quality conservation and display cases along with the full gallery fit out of the all-new That’s Showbiz: Hollywood, Bobe Hope Gallery and Fame exhibit.

The display cases, designed by Ralph Appelbaum Associates, will incorporate Goppion’s most recent proprietary technology to maintain the ideal environment to protect the priceless documents and artefacts in the Library’s archives.

For the That’s Showbiz exhibition, Goppion will incorporate equally sophisticated cases as it realizes the design of Quatrefoil Associates. Scenographic elements, graphics and lighting will be constructed and integrated to create a stunning immersive visitor experience.

Karen Werth, the Deputy Chief of the Library’s Exhibitions Office was enthusiastic about the new collaboration: “We are excited to have Goppion working on these important projects on this project and their subsequent award of the tender. Their reputation for quality and conservation technology was what we were looking for as we advance the Library’s efforts to reach more visitors and demonstrate the value of our extensive collection”.

Award of this contract coincided with Goppion Museum Workshop’s North American expansion. Over the past year the company has moved to expanded warehouse and workshop space in the greater Boston area and doubled their local staffing. CEO Sandro Goppion explained: “We have always had a large presence in European museums and libraries, and we realize that the sophisticated North American market is demanding increasingly higher performance from their display casework. Our investment in local resources demonstrates our commitment to the very important institutions and their collections in the United States, Canada and Mexico”.

Look for the That’s Hollywood exhibition to open in the fall of 2022.
