Cairo. The Museum of Islamic Art seriously damaged in car-bomb attack

24 Jan 2014

The Museum of Islamic Art in Cairo, which was reopened in 2010 after a costly and radical restoration of its architecture and layout, was seriously damaged in a car-bomb attack. The museum features one of the richest collections of Islamic art in the world

Goppion had worked on the museum’s exhibition spaces, working for four years in close contact with curators, exhibit designers and local workers. The company has been deeply affected by this event and joins in condemning yet another grave crime against the cultural heritage of humanity.

We are comforted by the words of Yasmine Dorghamy, Islamic art expert and editor of ‘Al Rawi Magazine’ told various international news agencies: “It wasn’t as bad as we feared….Although the ceiling debris smashed the glass in display cases, the framework of the cases was able to protect many artifacts.” We also take comfort in knowing that the solidity of our products helped limit the damage from the explosion.
