Alessandro Goppion decorated with the rank of Official of the Order of Merit

This past November, the President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, officially bestowed upon Alessandro Goppion the rank of Official of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
Instituted in 1951 (Law of 3 March 1951, no. 178), the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic is the most important of the national orders and is meant to “recognize merit acquired by the nation in the fields of literature, the arts, economy, public service as well as for social, philanthropic and humanitarian activities and for long and distinguished service in civilian and military careers.”
