Article – 20 Nov 2024
This month marks the 200th anniversary of the Museo Egizio in Turin, one of the world’s most esteemed institutions dedicated to Egyptian art and culture. We are honored to have collaborated with the museum on several occasions, contributing to its mission of preserving and sharing the treasures of ancient Egypt. To mark this monumental anniversary, the museum is hosting the “Festival 200,” featuring free admission, guided tours, performances, and events over three days. The celebrations also a visit from Italian President Sergio Mattarella.

The museum’s journey began in 1823 when King Carlo Felice purchased Bernardino Drovetti’s collection for 400,000 lire, laying the foundation for what would become one of the world’s most significant repositories of Egyptian artifacts. Over the years, the museum’s treasures have weathered wars and been safeguarded in locations like the Castello di Agliè, a testament to its enduring importance.
Our partnership with this esteemed institution began in 2013, when we won an international competition to create over 150 exhibition elements, including conservation-grade display cases, supports, and bases. This foundational work laid the groundwork for our continued collaboration, enhancing the museum’s ability to showcase its remarkable collection. Most recently, we provided state-of-the-art display solutions for two new permanent exhibitions: the Textile Gallery, which houses 732 fragile textile artifacts, and the Vase Gallery, a newly unveiled space that houses an extensive collection of more than 5,000 fired-clay ancient Egyptian vessels.
Through our continued collaborations with the Egyptian Museum, Goppion continues to set new standards in the realm of museum exhibitions, proving once again that our expertise in the technical aspects of museum installations can profoundly impact the preservation and appreciation of cultural heritage worldwide.
